The Chœur St-Michel is a youth choir affiliated with the Collège St-Michel in the Swiss city of Fribourg. Since taking over as choirmaster in September 2006, Philippe Savoy has broadened the choristers’ horizons by introducing them to a wide range of choral and orchestral pieces (Charpentier’s Messe de minuit, St-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël, the Vivaldi Magnificat and Fauré Requiem) as well as works by the great masters of polyphony (Monteverdi and Gesualdo) and contemporary compositions by Ligeti, Lauridsen and Whitbourn. The choir is a regular guest at the Murten Classics Festival and in 2010 was invited to sing at the swearing-in of the new Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican. It has undertaken three concert tours to Palestine and in 2019 sang for the victims of the Morandi Bridge disaster in Genoa. Ever curious and open to new sounds, the Chœur St-Michel has also worked on contemporary music projects in collaboration with both the Collegium Novum ensemble and the DA MOTUS! dance company.
