The Romanian Radio Children’s Choir, Romania

Founded in 1945, the Romanian Radio Children’s Choir is a music school, valued cultural institution and talent nursery rolled into one. Its busy programme of concerts, recordings, tours and international competitions has made it a benchmark for children’s choral singing both in Romania and abroad. Some of the great opera singers of the past few decades began their careers in the RRCC, among them Ileana Cotrubaș, Silvia Voinea, and the highly acclaimed mezzosoprano Roxana Constantinescu. No less worthy of mention is the succession of outstanding conductors that have led the choir during its 77-year history, starting with its founder Ion Vanica. Through their dedication, talent, wisdom and love of children, coupled with a determination to get every detail right, each of them has had a formative impact on the choir’s artistic evolution. The RRCC has taken part in festivals and competitions all over Europe, while its concert tours have included trips to the U.S.A. and Canada as well as four visits to Japan.
