Jugendchöre «ATempo! & Vivace» der Musikschule Basel, Switzerland
The youth choir ATempo! comprises 50 singers aged between 19 and 24, while Vivace has around 20 members in the 17–19 age bracket, some of whom have been faithfully singing together in this formation week in week out since childhood. The two choirs belong to Basel Music School’s choir school, which boasts no fewer than nine choirs altogether. Both ATempo! and Vivace perform regularly either at the Music Academy in Basel or further afield, two highlights of their calendar being the biennial European Festival of Youth Choirs and the Swiss Youth Choir Festival. The choirs’ eclectic repertoire is constantly expanding and ranges from folk songs from Switzerland and other countries to pop music, short works from the classical canon and vocal experiments of all kinds. ATempo! is led by the team-teaching duo Regina Hui and Maria Laschinger, while Vivace is in the capable hands of Maria Laschinger and Beat Vögele.
