The “Lautitia” youth choir was founded by former members of the children’s choir of St. Efrem’s Greek Catholic Primary School in Debrecen, Hungary, in 2008. Since then, it has been a regular contestant in several major competitions and festivals, most notably in the 16th Budapest International Choral Festival, at which it won first prize in the mixed youth choir category, the Polifonico Guido D’Arezzo International Choir Competition, at which it was awarded the Grand Prix, and the 8th Zoltán Kodály Hungarian Choir Competition of 2018, at which it claimed first prize as well as receiving a special commendation. Its repertoire is mainly contemporary but also includes challenging works from the classical canon, including by Kodály and Rachmaninoff. While the singers are embarking on very different careers, they remain bound by what they inherited from the children’s choir: a love of singing and dedication to excellence. They sing for their own enjoyment – and ours too!
