Norwegian Girls Choir, Norway

Continuing the work of the Norwegian public broadcaster’s girls choir, established in 1947, the Norwegian Girls’ Choir provides a nurturing environment for young female singers aged between 6 and 26. Its demands are high, and all applicants have to play an instrument and be able to sight-read even just to audition. Later they receive individual vocal coaching as well as aural training and lessons in music theory. The success of this approach can be measured by the number of accomplished musicians that the choir has brought forth over the years. It counts as an important player in the cultural life of the nation and has performed with many ensembles of renown. It is also a welcome guest at festivals all over the world. Its two recordings, “Folketoner” (2017) and “Stille grender” (2020), were both nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Immersive Audio Album. The choir’s official patron is Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
