MUSICA SENZA CONFINI

Basel, kulturkirche paulus
Choirs from Turkey, Sweden-Lapland and Romania are travelling to Basel for the EYCF. But there are also many Turks, Swedes and Romanians who live in Switzerland and enrich our daily lives with their presence. The choirs present their musical culture in three one-hour sessions. They show songs, dances and traditional instruments, share their knowledge with us and teach us a short song. Migrants from the same countries living in Switzerland contribute their own contributions in the free part that follows. This can be culinary, informative or even an encounter while dancing or chatting. Get involved and learn more about the richness of other countries at first hand.
When the weather is fine, the coffee mobile of Unternehmen Mitte will be open.

COUNTRY FOCUS «TURKEY»
FRIDAY, 30 MAY 2025
Duration: 11.00 – 12.00, followed by Meet & Mingle, stands on Turkish culture
Admission: solidarity contribution (recommendation CHF 20/person)
At first glance, Turkish music culture has little to do with the European-influenced choral tradition. The ‘Boğaziçi Youth Choir’ from Istanbul has done much to ensure that the two different musical traditions now enrich each other and produce wonderful new music. They tell and sing traditional melodies, but also newly arranged pieces from different parts of Turkey.
After the hour-long event, it will be possible to indulge in Turkish specialities, meet Turkish people living in Switzerland and learn more about their country. The Turkish Parents’ Association Basel and Region offers a rich programme with various cultural stations and workshops covering everything from Turkish coffee to arts and crafts. You can find an overview of the programme here.

In this country focus, you can find out more about the creation of the music, which is customised for the girls by their choir director, about life in the far north and about the relationship between Swedes and Sami. Many Swedes also live in Switzerland.
After the hour-long event, it’s time for ‘Meet & Mingle’. Take the opportunity to learn more about Sweden and its wonderful peculiarities at first hand and treat yourself to specialities and information about the peculiarities of their culture. From Lappish jewellery to southern Swedish flower wreaths and fish sandwiches, Svenska Klubben Basel will be presenting some Swedish everyday rituals.
